Omaha Day 3 Recap

Stanford vs. Arizona

In Monday's elimination game Stanford beat Arizona 14-5 to send the Wildcats home from Omaha. The game was never in doubt after the top of the 3rd inning when Stanford put up 7 runs.  The scoring started with a 2 RBI double from CF Brock Jones.  Catcher Kody Huff followed with a single to bring home Jones.  A few batters later 3B Drew Bowser singled to drive in 2 more runs.  The scoring was capped by a 2 run homer from DH Tommy Troy.  The Cardinal added 3 more runs in the top of the next inning on an RBI single from Huff and a 2 RBI double from RF Christian Robinson.

Arizona finally got on the board in the bottom of the 4th with a 2 RBI double from Catcher Daniel Susac.  In the bottom of the 6th inning another double from Susac scored 1 and 2B Kobe Kato brought in Susac with a triple.  LF Tanner O'Tremba added the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 10-5.

But Stanford responded in the top of the next inning putting up 4 more runs.  The scoring started with an RBI double from SS Adam Crampton followed by a 3 run home run from Brock Jones.  Jones ended the night with a game high 5 RBIs.  Stanford RHP Alex Williams got the win, pitching 5.1 innings with 4 runs allowed and 4 strikeouts.  Jacob Palisch pitched the final 3.2 innings allowing only 1 run to get the save.

Vanderbilt vs. NC State

In the second game on Monday, NC State beat Vanderbilt 1-0 in a classic pitchers duel.  Highly touted Vanderbilt pitcher Jack Leiter went 8 innings allowing only 1 run and striking out an amazing 15 batters. But it wasn't enough as Wolfpack starter Sam Highfill was just as good.  He threw 7.2 innings of shut out baseball, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 7.  Reliver Evan Justice pitched a scoreless final 1.2 innings to get the save and preserve the shut out.

The lone run of the night came on a solo home run from Wolfpack DH Terrell Tatum in the bottom of the 5th inning.
