Omaha Day 8 Recap

Texas vs. Mississippi St - Part 2

Mississippi State and Texas met again a little less than 18 hours from when the previous game ended and this time the Bulldogs came out on top, winning 4-3 to advance to the 2021 College World Series finals.

Texas started quickly again, getting a 2 run home run from 3B Cam Williams in the top of the 2nd inning.
Mississippi State got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  DH Kellum Clark led off with a double to left and was brought home 2 outs later on a single from RF Tanner Allen to make the score 2-1 Texas.

The Longhorns added to their lead in the top of the 5th inning.  RF Doug Hodo started it off with a lead off double.  After 2 consecutive outs it appeared Mississippi State starter Will Bednar might get out of the inning clean but Texas CF Mike Antico hammered a double to center, scoring Hodo.  The Bulldogs came back in the bottom of the inning.  A double from LF Brad Cumbest was followed by a single from Clark, advancing Cumbest to third.  Texas starter Tristan Stevens was able to get a ground out double play from SS Lane Forsythe, scoring Cumbest.

Mississippi State scored another run in the bottom of the 6th inning to tie the game 3-3.  The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 9th.  With 1 out, Kellum Clark reached first via a HBP.  Brayland Skinner came in to pinch run for Clark and stole second base to get into scoring position.  SS Tanner Leggett singled to center, scoring Skinner and sending Mississippi State into the Championship to face Vanderbilt.
